Business Climate: US Capital Eyes Cameroon Market

T ransforming Cameroon’s raw domestic potential into institutional-grade assets capable of capturing American balance sheets was the aim of the maiden Cameroon Business Climate Forum organised by the Ame­ rican Chamber of Commerce (Amcham). Opening discussions on Banking, Fintech, and Forex, focused on expanding struc­ tural liquidity, revising foreign exchange rules, and moderni­ zing financial rails to connect local entrepreneurs directly to global capital markets. Moving to Information and Commu­ nication Technology, industry experts urged scaling digital entrepreneurship, expanding cloud infrastructure, and le­ veraging artificial intelligence tools to guarantee long-term enterprise competitiveness. The extractive panel exposed vast subterranean wealth hampered by administrative inertia. In Cameroon, over 200 explora­ tion licenses sit frozen, while regulatory overlap damps in­ vestor confidence. Corruption and tax inefficiencies absorb 70% to 75% of potential value. This may explain the FCFA 2,000 billion in gold depart unrecorded between 2021 and 2025. “Cameroon is not a mining country; it is just one with geological potential. It needs money to transform her potential to mineral wealth. So this dialogue could open the potential to investments,” explains Kareen Ojong Agbor, Director of Geology at the Ministry of Mines.
