How does the felling down of palms trees af fect the CDC workers and management psychologi cally and economically? For CDC, that is life threate ning. CDC is the plantations. It is not the head office. It is not technical services and it is not medical services. All of us support the plantations. The real CDC is the planta tions. And the plantations in areas like that have become even more important today because there are certain areas of CDC which are not 100 per cent accessible. We cannot for example, operate 100 per cent in Malende, Maenja etc. So, a place like Bota, Moliwe where we can operate, we have to do the maximum. When we face this kind of situation, where young palm trees in their prime production age are being fell, it is life threatening. It is the best way to frustrate all the efforts that the government is making to revamp the CDC. It is the best way to frustrate all the efforts that management is making to keep the CDC afloat. We do understand CDC has launched an appeal to the Supreme Court. What is the way forward? To me the way forward should be the following. It is true that there is urbanisation. It is true that CDC will continue to be subjected to pressure as far as land occupation is concerned. But it is also true that we live in a State of law. Every action, every development which is not guided by law, we drive into anarchy which benefits nobody. Even the few persons who think they may benefit from such action that is totally out of the law, they will end up suffering from the anarchy which we are driving towards. There is a laid down procedure for the surrender of the CDC land. Let it be respected. And that procedure makes provision for the opinion of the Board of Directors of CDC which will either give a favourable or an unfavourable opinion depending on the strategic impact of any such decision.
