How can this cloud de ployment be accessed by students? Cloud computing can feel abs tract, but at its core it’s simply a pool of resources made avai lable to students on request. When the cloud is set up, a teacher or department administrator grants a stu dent permission to have a virtual machine created for them, based on their request and their need for resources beyond what they personally have access to for a gi ven assignment. Once permission is granted, the student can access their virtual machine over the same network as the cloud and use it for their assignment. Specifically, they get access to storage, to save their work; compute power, to run highly intensive programs and software; and networking, which lets them communicate with other virtual machines on the same network, for collaborative or distributed tasks, for instance. After gaining access in the site, how is the learning done? Once a student gains access, learning happens on two le vels. First, they use their virtual machine directly, running as signments, testing software, and completing practical coursework, so the learning comes from doing the work itself, without the resource limits they’d normally face.
