The Ministry of Public Works has indicated that the first phase of the project to construct the Yaoundé-Douala motorway is 74 per cent completed. According to the ministry construction has already reached 60 km. It adds that pavement work is completed between kilometre point 00 and kilometre point 40 while earthworks are underway between kilometre point 40 and kilometre point 60. The Chinese company, China First Highway Engineering Co, in charge of the project is said to deliver this first phase of the highway by 2020. The Yaoundé-Douala motorway whose works were launched in 2014, is a modern road network of about 215 km between the country’s two largest cities (Yaoundé and Douala). The total cost of the work of the first phase is estimated at FCFA 284 billion.
