Rehabilitation/Extension of Railway Network : French Development Agency Expresses Interest

The French Development Agency (AFD) has expressed interest to contribute in the rehabilitation and extension projects of the railway network in Cameroon. The agency officials who are sojourning in the country from January 22 to 26, 2018, met with the Minister of Transport, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o on Tuesday in Yaounde to discuss on the situation of the railway network and its prospects.

According to the Head of the AFD team, Lise Breul, a senior official of the Transport Division team of AFD, the audience granted the delegation by the Minister of Transport availed them the opportunity to make a diagnosis of the sector, its importance on the national and sub-regional economy amongst others. Minister Mebe Ngo’o who was assisted by some of his close aides and his guests also exchanged on the different envisaged projects of rehabilitation and extension of the railway line to N’Djamena, Chad. Though Lise Breul said no amount of money has been disclosed yet, she expressed AFD’s firm interest to contribute in these projects. Their mission to Cameroon, she disclosed, is to identify funding needs in the railway and seaport sectors.
