Sand is one of the primary products found in all parts of Cameroon. 80 per cent of sand mining is artisanal in some big rivers like Mungo, Sanaga, Wouri amongst others. It is one of the most available products with estimated 5,000 people involved in the sand dredging. The price of sand varies according to the quality and weather conditions and distance to the site of construction. In Yaounde for example, the price varies from FCFA 135,000 to FCFA 175,000 for a 20-ton truck. During the raining season it can even go up to FCFA 200,000. While the sector begs for organisation, about 800 tonnes are supplied daily in the capital city.
