Bamenda III : FCFA 589 Million Budget To Extend Water, Roads

The budget that witnessed a 7.01 per cent increase will be used to extend water within the municipal

The Bamenda III Council will be operating on a budget of FCFA 589 million for the 2018 financial year. This amount was voted during the council session that took place recently at the council hall. The 2018 budget went up from FCFA 550 million   in 2017 giving an increase of 7.01 per cent in relative terms and FCFA 39 million increase in absolute terms. The increase was attributed to the fact that the National Community Driven Programme, PNDP has continued to transfer competencies and resources to councils as well as other income generating activities embarked on by the council. As per law number  2009/011of  10th  July 2009 relating to the financial regime of Regional and local authorities,  the council has allocated 40.01 per cent of its budget for investment, 59.9 per cent for operating expenditure and 26 per cent of the operating expenditure will be used for staff expenses. 

The councillors have agreed to work as a team in order to achieve their goal which is to improve on the livelihood of the people living within the Bamenda III municipality. As to how the money will be spent, the Mayor of Bamenda III council Fongu Cletus, explained that their priority projects for 2018 will be to extend water to some neighbourhoods like PMI Nkewn, Tene-Tene amongst others.
