CEMAC : New Team To Foster Economic Integration

The extraordinary summit of Heads of State of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community en
Heads of State of the Central Africa Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) have concluded deliberations of the Extraordinary Summit of the sub-regional block in the Chadian capital, N’Djamena. In attendance were four out of the six Heads of State of the member countries of CEMAC notably Presidents Paul Biya of Cameroon, Idriss Derby Itno of Chad, Teodoro Obiang Ngeuma of Equatorial Guinea and Faustin Archange Touadera of Central African Republic. Gabon and Congo were represented at Prime Ministerial levels.  Prominent amongst the resolutions of the N’Djamena summit was the appointment of a new team to pilot the affairs of CEMAC. The team headed by Prof Daniel Ona Ondo (Gabon) as President of the CEMAC Commission and Mrs Fatima Haram Acyl (Chad) as Vice, has been put in place to foster the ideals of the sub-region which are hinged on fostering economic integration through free movement of persons and goods. The appointment of the new leadership also took into account the rotational principle in taking up positions within the CEMAC Commission.  The leaders of the CEMAC countries focused on reinforcing economic integration among member States as well as auto financing of the institution. In a release that concluded the event, CEMAC Heads of State under the chairmanship of Idriss Derby, current President of CEMAC, lauded the remarkable progress of the free movement of persons and goods within the CEMAC sub-region in accordance with the Additional Act adopted in June 2013.
