Digital Economy: Niche For Job Creation

The advent of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has heralded a paradigm shift in doing business with diverse opportunities for new jobs. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) offer varied opportunities capable of transforming lives of young people. One of those prospects is the propensity for new jobs in the domain. Cameroon government understands perfectly the concept and its imperatives in today’s contemporary world. This is why President Paul Biya in his end-of-year address to the nation on December 31, 2015 stated that “We must rapidly bridge the digital economy development gap. It is a genuine growth driver as well as a niche for new jobs for our youth.” The holding of an International Forum for Employment on July 12, 2017 in the nation’s economic capital on the theme “Digital Economy: At the Heart of Youth Employment,” is just another lever to get youth know the realities of the sector and opportunities therein. The Douala get-together is coming barely weeks after yet another international forum on digital economy that held in Yaounde from May 15 to 17, 2017 following instructions of Cameroon’s Head of State.
