How is a class geofence set up? To register the geofence, we move to the centre of the class, where the app takes the GPS location of that point and stores its coordinates the lon gitude and latitude of the class centre. The lecturer then sets a radius depending on the size of the class. This stored centre and radius define the geofence for that class. When a student wants to mark attendance for that class, the app cap tures his/her location. It then computes the distance between his/ her coordinates and the class centre using the Haversine formula, and compares that distance with the set radius: if the student is outside the radius then he or she is absent. If the student is within the radius of the class, it now proceeds to facial recognition. Firstly, a student logs into his account and to register his/her face, he/she clicks on register face, the system captures the face which is encrypted and stored. When the student wants to mark attendance for a course, (s)he captures the face at the moment (s)he wants to mark. What has been stored is retrieved, decrypted, and a cosine comparison is done between these two faces. The cosine distance threshold is 0.40: if it is within the threshold, the faces match; if it is above 0.40, the faces do not match. When the face matches, the attendance is marked, with the confidence score in percentage included in the marked attendance. This confidence score shows how similar the two faces are (the face at the moment with what have been stored). How do users sign in and register their faces? Firstly, we don’t need the lec turer’s face. What ...
