C ameroonian digital health company Was pito has made history after winning the LEAP Rocket Fuel Award 2026, be coming the first African star tup to claim the competition’s Grand Prize. The award was presented during LEAP, one of the world’s leading techno logy and innovation events, which attracted thousands of startups from across the globe. After several rounds of selection, 100 companies were chosen as finalists, repre senting markets including the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Ukraine, Nigeria, and Kenya. Waspito ultimately emerged as the overall winner, securing the competition’s largest prize of $250,000, approximately FCFA 141 million. Waspito is building a digital healthcare ecosystem designed to transform how healthcare is accessed and delivered across Africa. Its platform connects patients, doctors, laboratories, phar macies, and other healthcare stakeholders, helping to coor dinate and finance healthcare services within an integrated ecosystem. For Founder and CEO Jean Lobe Lobe, the victory represents more than success in a global startup competition. “This victory is proof that a company can be built in Africa, solve African challenges, and compete at the highest level on the global stage,” he said.
