T he bilateral audiences held in Yaounde last September 9, 2026, mark a concerted push to bridge Central and North African markets by focusing on high-growth, labour-inten sive sectors. Leading the Egyptian dele gation, H.E. Mohamed Ka rim Fouad Sharif, Assistant Minister for African Affairs, met first with the Minister of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, Achille Bas silekin III. Discussions focused on tapping into Egypt’s FCFA 206.2 trillion (365 billion dol lars) economy, where Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) development is driven by the country’s 2030 SME Strategy to bolster Cameroon’s domestic enterprise sector. Key com mitments include establishing a permanent institutional dia logue framework, transferring technical know-how, securing international venture financing for digital start-ups, and revi ving a dedicated leather-sector training institute in Cameroon. Bilateral trade between the two nations currently sits near FCFA 35.32 billion (62.53 million dollars) annually, with Egyptian exports like cement dominating the flow according to the National Institute of Statistics. Both nations aim to address this asymmetry by facilitating direct access to new markets.
