How does your innovation work, and who can use it? The Smart Agricultural Monito ring System was born from my experience growing up around my grandmother and smallhol der agriculture in Ndamukong, Bamenda. The system combines a solar-powered agricultural mo nitoring kit which measures soil pH, temperature, humidity, and sunlight intensity with an AI-inte grated mobile platform. Essentially, the system translates these mea surements and weather forecasts into clear, actionable advice for specific crops. Since the innovation is designed around Cameroonian and African agricultural and digital realities, it is digitally inclusive. Through USSD, farmers interact with the system using basic mobile phones without needing smart phones, constant internet, or grid electricity. Any smallholder farmer can easily use it. What measures are put in place to guarantee security and data privacy? We build strictly around the principle of farmer data sovereignty. The farmer retains total control over data generated from their farm. SAMS will never sell personal or agricultural data to advertisers, data brokers, or third parties. We strictly limit data collection to operational necessities and separate personally identifiable information from crop datasets. Furthermore, our AI recommenda tions rely solely on environmental parameters like soil pH, humidity, sunlight, and crop type rather than personal details. How much initial capital was required to launch, and how was it funded? Approximately FCFA 1.2 million has been spent directly on ac tivities including field testing, hardware prototyping, software development, and validation with over 100 farmers, traders, and stakeholders across Cameroon’s North, Northwest, and Centre Regions.
