Public Entities: New Rankings

On August 13 2026, Cameroon’s Ministry of Finance, updated the performance based classifications for 34 public enterprises and 75 public establishments to cover the next three years.

T he upgraded framework ranks 34 state-owned enterprises across five distinct tiers, using ave­ rage turnover metrics over the last three financial years as the principal benchmark. The first category, comprising structures with turnover exceeding FCFA 100 billion, features seven top- tier entities including Camtel, Alucam, Socadel, Port Authority of Douala, Sonara, SNH, and the Port Authority of Kribi. Within this group, the Port Authority of Douala and Alucam joined the top tier after advancing from lower ranks. The second category, designated for en­ terprises generating between FCFA 50 to FCFA 100 billion, has consolidated significantly since 2023 and currently houses a single entity, the national elec­ tricity transmission company (Sonatrel). The third category covers entities with turnover between FCFA 10 to FCFA 50 billion and expanded from five companies in 2023 to seven in 2026. This rank groups together the Cameroon Development Corporation which slipped from the first category, Camair-Co, Camwater, Electricity Develop­ ment Corporation, ADC, and SCDP. The fourth category represents structures gene­ rating between FCFA 5 to 10 billion FCFA and contains three enterprises, notably Sopecam, the Cameroon National Ship­ per’s Council and the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering. The fifth category, reserved for enterprises generating under FCFA 5 billion, now accounts for 16 companies, down from 18 listed in the 2023 classification.
