A s Cameroon positions itself as a regional economic hub, the Building and public works sector (best known by the french acronym BTP), stands as the primary catalyst for urbanization across key ci ties and maritime gateways. In energy, the approximately FCFA 787 billion Nachtigal Hy droelectric Project delivers 420 MW, supplying nearly 30% of the national grid. Strategic transport corridors show si milar strides: Phase 1 of the Yaounde-Douala Expressway, the Kribi Seaport expansion, and Douala’s Second Wouri Bridge have cut logistics bott lenecks. Civic modernization complements this heavy in frastructure through projects like the Olembe Sports Com plex, Garoua Regional Hospital, Yaounde Emergency Centre (CURY), new campuses like the Bertoua and Ebolowa Universi ties, and modernized markets in Yaounde and Douala. “By working alongside internatio nal experts on flagship builds, local engineers gain invaluable practical experience in design, management, and modern engineering technologies” emphasizes Yibain Eric Chia, Civil Engineer specialised in geotechnical and structural calculations. The National Institute of Sta tistics in its 2023 third survey analysis report on Employment and the Informal Sector reveals that, the BTP sector through its projects generates significant direct and indirect employment. The Nachtigal dam alone mo bilized over 3,000 direct and indirect workers.
