The fruit is in abundance in every foodstuff market in the port city of Douala. One will hardly walk up to 200 metres without bypassing hawkers along the streets of popular quarters and as well as junctions carrying trays of pear. They don’t miss the opportunity to enter offices even without invitation. A large size pear is sold between FCFA 75 and FCFA 100 while medium size ones sell at FCFA 50. In markets, a basket of raw pear that sold at FCFA 6,000 three months back, now sells at FCFA 2,000. Supermarkets are surrounded with trays of pear and customers have a wide range of choices. To Olivier Moumbain, pear has been in abundance since the start of May and will be in season till Mid July.
