The award and execution of public contracts during this 2020 financial year has witnessed a drop compared to last year. This was the major outcome of an evaluation meeting held recently by the Ministry of Public Contracts through a video conference. The mid-year evaluation meeting brought together officials of the central and devolved services of the Ministry. Though the press release from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry did not stipulate the rate of drop in the performance, it however advanced reasons for the drop. Prominent amongst them is the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, immaturity of certain programmes programmed, late transmission of projects by the tenders’ boards, inappropriate mastery of New Public Contracts Code by actors and council executives.
