The Douala International Airport now has a solar energy park to supplement electricity supply at the facility. The infrastructure constructed on a surface area of 13,000m2, will be inaugurated in October 2018. The project funded by the European Union will have a production capacity of one megawatts. The solar park is constructed within the framework of the International Civil Aviation Organization (OACI) programme on reducing carbon emission. Apart from the Douala platform, it is said that four other airports have been selected by the by aviation organization as part of the carbon reduction program, which is still in its pilot phase. These include Kingston and Montego airports in Jamaica, Mombasa in Kenya and Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago.
