China will continue to hit back against the US if more tariffs are imposed, the country’s finance Minister said. The US imposed a second wave of tariffs on
Chinese goods worth 16 billion dollars (about FCFA 9 trillion), and China immediately responded in kind. Two days of trade talks in Washington between the two sides failed to make any major progress. The escalating trade row between the US and China has now seen each side impose 25 per cent tariffs on a total of 50 billion dollars (about FCFA 28.2 trillion) of one another’s goods. The US has threatened a third round of tariffs on an additional 200 billion dollars (about FCFA 112.8 trillion) of Chinese goods, which could come as soon as next month.
