Customs: FCFA 8 Billion Increase in Revenue

Statistics of the first quarter of 2018 show that customs revenue collection is on the rise. During the first three months of 2018, the customs department under the Ministry of Finance collected FCFA 187 billion up from FCFA 179.5 billion same period last year indicating an increase of FCFA 8 billion. The reported 4 per cent increase is attributed to innovations the government is implementing in the customs department including the extension of the use of the Sydonia clearance system to customs offices in Touboro and Garoua, the use of the procedural manual drawn up for clearance of goods at the Kribi Deep Seaport and the use of a Unique Transit Document instituted to facilitate and secure the transit of goods along the Douala-Ndjamena and Douala-Bangui corridors.
