Egusi

It is not only used as soup thickener but also prepared as pudding. ‘Egusi’ is in two types; the tiny grains called ‘Ibo egusi’ and the fat grains known as ‘contry egusi’. It is sold in its cracked and un-cracked form with the cracked more expensive. Egusi is pretty expensive now with a measuring glass of cracked ‘Ibo egusi’ selling at FCFA 300 instead of the FCFA 200 it usually sells while the un-cracked cost FCFA 150 instead of FCFA 100 in most markets. A glass of cracked ‘contry egusi’ cost FCFA 400 in the Grand Hangar Market.
