The demand of cement in Cameroon is expected to witness a 10 per cent increase annually. According to an analysis of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development revealed that the demand for the building material will rise considerably thanks to ongoing or planned giant projects like ports, dams, roads and infrastructure being built within the framework of the 2019 African Nations Cup. “The average annual growth is estimated at 10%. In anticipation to this growth, some cement companies are increasing their production capacity”, the Ministry indicates. The ministry also indicated that CIMENCAM, a subsidiary of Lafarge Holcim, is planning to build a 500,000 tons cement unit at Nomayos, Yaoundé. This plant could be completed in 2019 and thanks to this, the company’s production capacity will reach 2 million tons. As for Dangote Cement Cameroon, it has launched the construction of a 1.5 million tons plant in Yaoundé. With this, its overall production capacity will be 3 million tons. As far as CIMAF is concerned, it is upgrading its Douala based plant to increase its capacity from 500,000 tons to 1.5 million and the work should be completed by 2019.
